Basic Scuba Diving Equipment
If you have decided to take up scuba diving, then at some point in time you will want to buy your own equipment. Typically, most new divers rent their gear until they are sure the sport is really for them or not, and if they want to make the investment in their own scuba diving gear. Being able to choose the right scuba diving equipment is important, as the gear with a good fit and will want to buy the scuba equipment that is right for you and how you plan on using it. So, here is a list of the basic scuba diving equipment you will need.
Mask
Your mask is an important part of your scuba gear because you want to see what is going on under the water. That Is the whole point of scuba diving after all. Choose a mask that fits your face and forms a water tight seal. If you wear prescription glasses, you can purchase a prescription mask to help mak e you more comfortable.
Fins
Your fins should fit your feet as well as a pair of shoes. Having a pair of fins that does not fit you correctly hinder your swimming as you scuba.
Snorkel
The basic function of the snorkel is to enable you to breathe easily at the surface of the water without raising your head above the water. The best length for a snorkel is around 30 centimeters.
Weight Belt
A weight belt is another important piece of gear for scuba diving. A weight belt will help you maintain buoyancy whie in the water.
Wet/Dry Suit
You will need to choose a wet suit that fits you well, and one that is most beneficial
for the diving that you intend to do. If you are planning in scuba diving in waters with a warmer temperature, then a wet suit is probably best for you. If you are planning on doing most of your diving in cooler waters, then a dry suit will work better. There are several types of suits you can purchase, from a wet suit, a semi-dry suit, and a fullyl dry suit. Be sure to choose the suit that best fits your needs.
Regulator and BC (Buoyancy Compensator)
While all of the other gear you can purchase yourself, you may want to get some help with the regulator and BC from a dive instructor or other professional diver. The regulator is an extremely important piece of equipment in that is carries air from your cylinder. A BC is essential to neutral buoyancy. Different types of BC’s work for different divers, and it is best to work with a professional to ensure that you get the right kinds.
Dive Watch or Dive Computer
A dive watch or computer will help you to measure your time and depth under water, allowing you to judge how much more time you have to dive, and other factors as well. The watch is cheaper for you to purchase, but the computer is much more accurate. You will have to carefully consider your decision to purchase either one. One of the best places to start in buying scuba diving equipment is with a mask, fins and weight belt. These pieces of gear are the least expensive to buy, and they will at least get you started scuba diving. The rest of the scuba equipment can come with time, and as you learn what kind of gear you want and need. Having the right kind of scuba gear can allow you to have a pleasurable scuba diving trip.
